Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail

Experience 52 miles of fun!

One of the most beautiful trails in Wisconsin runs through the heart of Sayner-Star Lake. The nationally recognized Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System is a 52-mile route that travels from St. Germain north to Sayner-Star Lake, to Boulder Junction and on to Manitowish Waters and Mercer. It’s a perfect place for a tranquil walk and it’s a popular cycling route, ideal for families as well as cyclists seeking a longer ride. The paved trail is accessible for wheelchair users. Dogs are also allowed. There are ample parking locations near the trail and public bathrooms.

The trail passes through Sayner just one block off of Main Street. To the south, you can follow the trail for 12 miles, passing Lost Lake and Big St. Germain Lake before heading into St. Germain. To the north, the trail passes near picnic and bathroom areas on Big Muskellunge Lake before skirting the shore of Trout Lake on the way to Boulder Junction. In Boulder Junction, the trail heads west along County Highway K to the trailhead in Manitowish Waters - and on to Mercer.
