Fall Drives in Sayner-Star Lake
This is the perfect time of year to spend some time behind the wheel around Sayner-Star Lake. Hardwood forests explode into color, opening up new vistas of forests and lakes. Keep an eye to the sky – massive flocks of migratory birds are on the move. Our highways and backroads wind through all of this breathtaking beauty and provide a breathtaking and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Here are two classic routes that offer some of the best scenery in the area.
Rustic Road 60
Rustic Road 60 is considered one of the state’s most beautiful drives and it passes through the heart of Sayner-Star Lake. It’s a lightly-traveled route that follows County Highway K, northwest of Star Lake. The route passes old logging camps, hiking trailheads and an old saw mill in Star Lake. The road offers frequent scenic vistas of numerous Northwoods lakes and dense forestland. According to one local legend, the curves in the road are intentional – they were allegedly placed to help catch runaway horses.
State Highway 155
This beautiful rural road, located south of Sayner is another scenic drive, heading past the shore of Lost Lake, south to St. Germain. To loop back to Sayner, take Highway 70 west to Highway C; head north on C around the west shore of Big St. Germain Lake to Highway 155.
