Guide to Snowshoeing in Sayner-Star Lake
New to snowshoeing, or do you consider yourself experienced? Lucky you! Sayner-Star Lake has trails for all levels of experience! Before we reveal the entire list, let’s start with two of our very favorites:
Star Lake Nature Trail
Blaze away on the scenic Star Lake Nature Trail and experience the gorgeous peninsula with breathtaking views of Star Lake’s 1,206 acres. This trail provides benches to sit, rest, and take in the view. It features signage along the way about the area and its natural history. There are two loops, the blue, and the red loops, distancing 1 and 2.04 miles. This trail is great for both beginners and avid snowshoers. Please help preserve the trails by leaving your furry friends at home.
The trailhead is located off County Hwy K, at the end of Statehouse Road; near the West Star Lake Campground.
Razorback Ridges
Razorback Ridges is primarily known for its 16 miles of beautifully groomed cross-country ski trails. However, two loops are marked for snowshoeing to enjoy the great outdoors, totaling 2.5 miles. Tim’s Trail distances 1.75 miles, while the North Bound Trail distances 0.75 miles. These trails are a community project maintained by the Sayner-Star Lake Lions Club in cooperation with the Wisconsin DNR. Due to this contribution, the trailhead is able to provide warming facilities and restrooms; all they ask for in return is donations to keep the facilities and trails maintained. The warming facilities have multiple picnic tables as a location to put on your gear and enjoy a snack; as well as a few tables outdoors. While pets are welcome during other seasons, they are asked to be left at home during the winter to preserve the trails.
The trailhead is located in Sayner just past the Corner Store, on Razorback Road located just off of Hwy N.
