Trail Guide: 4 Hotspots Worth a Pitstop

Sayner, the birthplace of the first modern-day snowmobile, in 1924 by Carl Eliason. So of course, it’s a major hub for snowmobile trails. If there’s one thing to be said about snowmobilers it’s that they like to warm up with some good food and drinks after a long bone-chilling ride. These four locations promise to provide just that:

Stillwaters Food & Spirits - Pitstop #35

Check out new owners Wes and Kelly, as it’s their first snowmobile season as the owners of Stillwater’s. Right off the main trail with 30 beers on tap, this has been a popular spot for years. Known for their pizza, burgers, and prime rib sandwich they are sure to fill one's stomach. The new owners have also carried on the tradition of Karaoke every Thursday and Saturday night for those who are ready to sing at the top of their lungs; who knows when you might get discovered?

Sayner Pub - Pitstop #36

Sitting next to Eliason Lumber & Hardware, of course, this is one of the biggest stops in Vilas County. Not only is it off the main trail, but they have an outdoor area that is open on the weekends with a limited bar and fire pits to get warm and toasty after a long ride but still allows the riders to enjoy the great outdoors. Popular food items among snowmobilers at this location include appetizers, soups, and sandwiches. As for drinks, there’s no question as to who has the largest Bloody Mary in the area; at a whopping twenty-two ounces with a whole meal on top, this is sure to warm and fill you up in no time.

Hillside Tavern & Grill - Pitstop #38

BREAKING NEWS: Newly renovated bar as of December 26th! If that’s not enough to make this a hotspot then perhaps their outdoor deck with a heater and seating is. While best known for their mouthwatering pizza they also have a wide variety of appetizers such as their Homemade Wonton Mozzarella Sticks (while supplies last), and sandwiches including the newly added Cuban. This family-friendly location may be off the beaten path but it’s a best-kept secret for a reason.

Mar-Li’s - Pitstop #43

Plan your route around dinner at Mar-li’s because this spot is a must-stop for dinner. While off the beaten path and only open from 4 to close, their menu is a snowmobiler's dream. Their crispy juicy Broasted Chicken is to die for and there's a reason why they are known for some of the best cheese curds in the area. Owner Lisa is constantly coming up with new specials posted to Facebook that are sure to please. Their large bar and dining room, complete with a pellet stove, is able to warm up larger groups in no time!
