Sayner-Star Lake is an ideal summer destination for those who love getting out on the trails. It’s home to forested trails that are perfect for a family bike ride, a morning nature walk, a challenging hike or an off-road biking adventure. Here’s a quick guide to the trails around Sayner-Star Lake.
Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System
One of the most beautiful paved trails in Wisconsin runs through the heart of Sayner-Star Lake. The Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System is a 52-mile route that travels through St. Germain, Sayner-Star Lake, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters and Mercer. It’s a popular cycling route but it’s also a perfect place for a quiet stroll.
Razorback Ridges
Just outside Sayner you’ll find this beautiful and rugged trail system that’s open for hiking and mountain biking. The trails include some challenging single track. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Trampers Trails
Adventurous hikers will be rewarded on this assortment of scenic hiking trails on the shores of Star Lake. Parts of the trail skirts the very edge of the lake, tracing through lush, mossy forest. The trail is marked but before you head out on this trail, consider downloading the free Map It Vilas County trails app. The app is a big help for navigating this trail. You’ll find various access points and places to park on the system, including spots along unpaved Star Lake Road.
Star Lake Nature Trail
This picturesque path traces a peninsula onto Star Lake. There is a 1-mile loop and a 2.5-mile loop. The trail entrance is off State House Road.
